As we said the other day, we’re quite sure that Jon Scheyer will be mentioned for the Penn State job. It’s just kind of a tradition to link a Duke assistant with an opening and Scheyer is an exceptionally appealing candidate. He’s young, brilliant and has soaked up a lot of basketball during his time at Duke, both as a player and coach.
It won’t be the last time he’s mentioned for this job and others for that matter, and it’ll only stop when he says he’s not interested, assuming of course that he’s not.
The other prospects mentioned here are interesting: interim coach Jim Ferry, VCU’s Mike Rhoades, Vermont’s John Becker, Penn and former BC coach Steve Donahue, Keith Dambrot of Duquesne, Shaka Smart of Texas, former Sixers coach Brett Brown and Rick Pitino, about to start his comeback at Iona.
