The Elam Ending Is A Bad Idea

We’ve heard about the Elam ending - the idea that in the last four minutes of a game you take the leading team’s score and add seven and whoever gets there first wins.

We have to agree with Mike DeCourcy here - it would really end the possibility of thrilling endings.

There is a problem with the tendency to foul at the end of a game in order to give your team a chance, however slim, to fight its way back in.

There are easier ways to deal with it though. First, limit time outs in the last part of the game to two or three and possibly make them shorter - say 15 seconds.
