LOS ANGELES – Duke freshman Jayson Tatum was named 2016 Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year on Tuesday in a ceremony at the L.A. Hotel, becoming the second member of the Duke men's basketball program to win the award.
The St. Louis, Mo., native joins Greg Paulus (2005) as Duke winners of the prestigious award, which was created in 2003. Tatum was the second Duke player to be named Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, joining Jabari Parker (2012), which qualified him for the Male Athlete of the Year honor.
A three-time Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year honoree, Tatum averaged 29.
