Stevens, USA Basketball Upends Salvadores, Spain

CHEKHOV, Russia – The 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship opened action Saturday as both Duke sophomore Azurá Stevens and incoming freshman Angela Salvadores kicked off play against each other in Chekhov, Russia.

Stevens and the USA squad totaled a 72-57 victory over Salvadores and the Spain team in preliminary play. Stevens, who hails from Raleigh, N.C., started for the USA, while notching three points and one rebound in 10 minutes of play.

A product of Leon, Spain, Salvadores collected nine points, four assists and three rebounds in 28 minutes for Spain.

Napheesa Collier finished the opener with 13 points, a game-high 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals; and Aja Wilson scored a game-best 18 points to go with 10 caroms for the United States.
