DURHAM, N.C. – Prior to playing his first match as a member of the Duke men’s tennis team, freshman Nick Stachowiak advanced to the doubles quarterfinals of the US Open Junior Championships. Stachowiak and his partner Sean Sculley earned a wild card to the event by advancing to the finals of the USTA National Championship in Kalamazoo in mid-August.
Stachowiak and Sculley opened the US Open draw with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 victory against Ulises Blanch and Yosuke Watanuki, the top seed in the event. Stachowiak followed with a comeback 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 triumph versus Youssef Hossam and Ergi Kirkin in the second round.
