DURHAM, N.C. – Kicking off the 2017 ACC Fencing Championships Saturday in historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., senior Rita Somogyi and freshman Lindsay Sapienza highlighted the day for the Blue Devils, each placing second in the women’s epee and saber individual competition, while the Duke men took second in the team event.
Starting with the women’s individual tournaments, Duke advanced one fencer to the semifinals in each of the three weapons.
In women’s epee, Somogyi went 11-4 in pool play and then earned a 15-9 victory over Notre Dame’s Madeline Antekeier in the semifinals.
