DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke standout Abby Johnston secured a trip to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio Sunday, claiming one of two spots on the U.S. Olympic Team in women’s 3-meter diving.
A 2013 Duke graduate and current Duke medical student, Johnston will make her second trip to the Olympics after winning a silver medal in women’s synchronized 3-meter diving four years ago in London. In that historic performance, Johnston and fellow American Kelci Bryant claimed the United States’ first Olympic medal ever in a synchronized diving event.
