CARY – Ian Siebers shattered the Duke freshman tournament scoring record, shooting 13-under par at the Stitch Intercollegiate to lead the Blue Devils to a sixth-place finish on Saturday at MacGregor Downs GC in Cary.
Siebers carded an opening 71 Friday, then shot back-to-back career low rounds of six-under 66 in rounds two and three to post his career best finish of tied for third. The freshman from Bellevue, Wash., has finished in the top 30 in each of his seven tournaments this season.
In posting the lowest tournament score by a Duke freshman on record, Siebers had just two blemishes over his 54 holes at MacGregor Downs, bogeying the opening hole on Friday and double bogeying the par-3 12th in Saturday's final round.
