VERONA, N.Y. – Paced by a top-10 finish from freshman Luke Sample, the Duke men's golf team opened its 2021-22 season with a fourth-place finish at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Monday at the Kaluyhat Golf Club in Verona, N.Y.
Duke posted a 6-over 294 on Monday and secured fourth place in the 15-team with its 54-hole score of 5-over 869 (290-285-294). Host Missouri won the tournament at 17-under par, followed by LSU (-15), Penn State (even), Duke (+5) and Delaware (+22) to round out the top five.
Sample played steady golf in Monday's final round, posting an even-par 72 to finish the tournament at 2-under 214 and in a tie for ninth place.
