CELJE, Slovenia — Led by 18 points from Duke University freshman Angela Salvadores, Spain downed Belgium, 59-53, Friday in the round of 16 at the FIBA U18 European Championship in Slovenia. Salvadores and Spain advance to face the winner of the Italy versus Czech Republic contest Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Salvadores, who hails from Leon, Spain, scored 18 points on 6-of-17 field goals, while notching five rebounds, two steals and one assist in 37 minutes of play for Spain. In Friday’s match, Spain jumped out to a 25-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and then took a 43-28 advantage into the break at halftime.
