DURHAM, N.C.-- On a cold October morning in 2010, Anita Riggs — mother of Duke women’s basketball senior Mercedes Riggs — slipped on a patch of ice while walking into the high school where she had worked for 18 years. She hit her head hard on the ice and tried to walk it off before falling and hitting her head a second time.
