FRANKFORT, Ill. – Duke University women's golf sophomore Erica Shepherd cruised Thursday into the quarterfinal round of match play at the Women's Western Amateur Championship as she knocked off two opponents at the Prestwick Country Club in Frankfort, Ill.
A native of Greenwood, Ind., Shepherd will next face Sophie Burks Friday in the round of eight.
Shepherd was paired against Tristyn Nowlin in the morning Thursday and cruised to a 6&4 victory. After both golfers parred the first hole, Shepherd won the next three straight holes on her way to taking a 3-UP lead.
