DURHAM, N.C. – Duke sophomore catcher Chris Proctor has been named to the 2017 Johnny Bench Award Watch List as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission Thursday. The prestigious award is given annually to the nation’s top NCAA Division I catcher.
As a freshman in 2016, started 46 games and hit .281 with a double, two triples, 17 RBI and 16 walks. Proctor missed Duke’s first two weekends due to injury, but has recently returned to the Blue Devil lineup.
The Lawndale, N.C., native is one of 85 catchers on the initial watch list and one of seven ACC catchers acknowledged, joining Georgia Tech’s Joey Bart, Wake Forest’s Ben Breazeale, Louisville’s Colby Fitch, Notre Dame’s Ryan Lidge, Florida State’s Cal Raleigh and Clemson’s Chris Williams.
