TRINITY, Texas – Led by Duke men's golf junior Adrien Pendaries, France won its first combined international championship at the 2019 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship, contested over the last week at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
It was a group effort for the French, which claimed the Spirit International -- a bicennial event that brings together 76 competitors from 19 countries who compete for gold medals in the 54-hole four-ball stroke play competition. Each country is represented by two women and two men amateur golfers.
France led after Thursday's first round, fell four shots behind the Republic of Korea after Friday's second round, then closed strong with seven birdies over the final eight holes on Whispering Pines' dramatic finishing stretch on Saturday.
