On Feb. 9, the day the news broke that Thomas Sirk had torn his Achilles during conditioning drills, Duke coach David Cutcliffe met with his No. 2 quarterback.
Stepping in for an injured Sirk wasn’t new for Parker Boehme. He did it throughout the 2015 season with mixed results. But this scenario was different. This wasn’t going to be a one-game or one-series showcase. The spring — and perhaps well beyond — belong to Boehme, and Cutcliffe wanted to make sure the understudy was ready for the spotlight.
“He basically said to take advantage of the opportunity,” Boehme said of his conversation with his head coach.
