The Serbs aren’t the most talented group in the field but they really play well together.
It’s hardly the most important thing in the world, least of all in that particular part of the world given the thousands of lives lost, but from a basketball point of view, the breakup of Yugoslavia was a great tragedy.
Those guys were spectacular. Vlade Divac, Dragan Petrovich, Toni Kukoc - it was as good as any team in the world short of the Dream Team.
Those guys were ethereal. And they changed basketball forever.
Today the countries that used to constitute Yugoslavia still play great basketball - just not together.
