DURHAM, N.C. – Senior midfielder David Planning scored six goals to lead visiting Ohio State to a 16-11 win over fifth-seeded Duke in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday night at Koskinen Stadium.
The Buckeyes (12-6) advance to next Saturday’s quarterfinal round in Denver, Colo., and will meet the winner of tomorrow’s Denver-Brown contest. Duke (12-6) concludes its season as the program’s eight-game winning streak in NCAA Tournament action came to an end. The Blue Devils will miss playing on Memorial Day Weekend for the first time since 2006.
After trailing 2-1 after one period, Ohio State outscored the Blue Devils by a 6-1 margin in the second quarter to claim a 7-3 lead at intermission.
