DURHAM – No. 6 Duke (14-3) scored 10 runs in the bottom half of the first inning and added eight more throughout the final seven innings of play to down Rider (2-10), 18-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.
The Broncs threw the first punch once again on Wednesday, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before the Blue Devils even took the field to hit. Duke responded in the bottom half of the frame, stringing together multiple extra base hits and free bases to lead 10-4 after one frame.
In the bottom of the third, Alex Stone hit a two-run home run to right-center field to push Duke's lead to 12-4.
