NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 5 Duke field hockey team fell to No. 4 Virginia, 2-1, in the ACC Quarterfinals Thursday evening at the Boston College Field Hockey Complex.
Duke fell to 13-7 on the year and will await the NCAA Championship Selection show on Sunday at 10 p.m. Virginia improved to 16-3 overall and advanced to the ACC semifinals.
Virginia got on the board first, as Rachel Robinson converted a penalty stroke at the 5:04 mark to put the Cavaliers up 1-0. The score was just the third goal given up by the Blue Devils in the first quarter all season.
