Back in the day before the academic fraud scandal exploded, UNC was seen by many as a model for how to excel academically and athletically.
It wasn’t as true locally as many people in the Triangle were aware of what was going on. We were told in 2001 that UNC was cheating and using the AFAM department to do it (specifically we were told this after Duke beat Carolina in Cameron and we were standing outside looking at Jason Capel on the UNC bus. It’s a very vivid memory).
Well times change and here’s UNC’s image now: the NCAA is pushing a new rule through specifically to deal with situations like what happened in Chapel Hill.
