DURHAM – Former Duke infielder and outfielder Joey Loperfido was added to the Houston Astros 40-man roster and elevated to the big-league club on Monday. Loperfido becomes the 47th Duke player to make his MLB debut in program history and the second this season.
The Haddonfield, N.J., native was selected in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros after starting all 170 games he appeared in during his time with the Blue Devils. In his four years at Duke, Loperfido posted a .317 career batting average, collecting 201 hits, 37 doubles, nine triples, 18 home runs and 96 RBI.
