Ling Claims Duke’s First ACC Title since 1973

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Wrapping up the final day of the 2016 ACC Fencing Championships Sunday, the Duke fencing program crowned its first conference champion since 1973 as sophomore Jennifer Ling won the women’s saber tournament. Ling is also the first Blue Devil woman to win an ACC title in fencing after the conference added a women’s fencing championship in 2015.

In the women’s saber competition, Ling and fellow sophomore Haley Fisher each finished pool play with 12-3 records to advance to the semifinals. Facing top-seeded and 2015 NCAA Saber Champion Francesca Russo of Notre Dame, Ling upset Russo, 15-9, to earn her spot in the championship bout.
