Going through some very old files, we came across an intriguing comment from Pete Herrmann, a long-time basketball coach.
Among Herrmann’s seven college stops was a stint in the late ‘90s as an assistant at UVa, where he was known for his analytical approach to basketball.
At the time he was quoted, though, Herrmann was head coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. In fact after six years he moved up to direct the program during David Robinson’s senior season.
Herrmann’s Midshipmen faced Jim Valvano’s Wolfpack in the Peach Jam Tip-Off Classic in Springfield, Mass., to launch his run at Navy.
