DURHAM, N.C. – For the fourth time Wednesday, a Duke Blue Devil was selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, as senior third baseman and relief pitcher Jack Labosky was taken in the 22nd round (660th overall pick) by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Clovis, Calif., native becomes the sixth Blue Devil selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, marking the most in program history since a record seven were taken in 2009. Labosky joins Griffin Conine (Toronto Blue Jays, second round, 52nd pick), Jimmy Herron (Chicago Cubs, third round, 98th pick), Chris Proctor (Detroit Tigers, 13th round, 375th pick), Zack Kone (Pittsburgh Pirates, 13th round, 384th pick) and Ethan DeCaster (Detroit Tigers, 18th round, 525th pick) as Blue Devils to be drafted in 2018.
