Here’s a pretty cool article about Jon Scheyer that originally ran in the Peoria Journal Star in 2006. This was after Scheyer’s stunning 52 point performance in the state tournament, including 21 points in 75 seconds.
It poses the question: who was the greatest player in Illinois state history? It’s amazing to be even mentioned in that capacity. Just consider some of the guys who have come out of Illinois over the years:
Isaiah Thomas, Ben Wilson, Jabari Parker, Mark Aguirre, Quinn Buckner, Maurice Cheeks, Chris Collins, Doug Collins, Terry Cummings, Anthony Davis, Bo Ellis, Kendall Gill, Tim Hardaway, Hersey Hawkins, Juwan Howard, Andre Iguodola, Dan Issel, Marcus Liberty, Shaun Livingston, Corey Maggette, George Mikan (admittedly not very good in high school), Jahlil Okafor, Doc Rivers, Derrick Rose, Cazzie Russell, Jerry Sloan, Dwyane Wade, Antoine Walker and so many more.
