NEW YORK – Little more than a week after helping lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to the first NBA championship in franchise history, former Duke star Kyrie Irving was named to his first U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team on Monday when USA Basketball unveiled the 12-man roster for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Duke’s Naismith Hall of Fame head coach Mike Krzyzewski will lead the U.S. squad on its quest for a third consecutive Olympic gold medal. Krzyzewski has coached USA National teams to a sterling 52-1 record in official FIBA or FIBA Americas competitions since 2006, leading teams to gold medals at the 2014 FIBA World Cup, 2012 Long Olympics, 2010 FIBA World Championship, 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2007 FIBA Americas Championship.
