For the longest time it was a given Duke didn’t bring in many players from North Carolina. It’s not that Mike Krzyzewski wasn’t interested. He casts a nationwide recruiting net, and a smattering of top national prospects interested in becoming Blue Devils were raised in what’s known as the Tar Heel state.
Most coveted during Krzyzewski’s tenure were Shavlik Randolph (2003-05), perhaps Ryan Kelly, and, most recently, Brandon Ingram (2016) and Harry Giles (2017).
The estimable Plumlee brothers – Miles, Mason and Marshall – attended a private school in Arden, NC, outside Asheville and each earned McDonald’s All-American honors.
