Raleigh, N.C. – Former Duke letterman Dick Havens has been named the recipient of the Distinguished American Award, announced Thursday by The National Football Foundation's Bill Dooley Chapter.
Serving on the Board of Directors for the National Football Foundation's Bill Dooley Chapter since its inception in 1995, Havens has been invaluable in philanthropy efforts which have raised over $100,000 in scholarships for deserving high school student-athletes.
A native of Westminster, Md., Havens was an all-state selection in football before matriculating to Duke. Playing for College Football Hall of Fame head coach Bill Murray, Havens was a three-year letterman on the gridiron at Duke, and helped the Blue Devils to a 23-8 overall record, three ACC championships (1960, 1961 & 1962) and a 7-6 victory over Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1961.
