BALTIMORE – The Duke fencing team featured four epeeists during Saturday’s Division I Men’s Epee competition at the December North American Cup (NAC), highlighted by freshman Bryn Hammarberg placing 34th out of 226 competitors.
In his final tune-up competition before beginning his first collegiate campaign, Hammarberg proved he was in mid-season form with a perfect 6-0 mark during pool play to go with a +15 indicator. With the No. 8 overall seed and a first-round bye, the rookie out of Maplewood, N.J., picked up a hard-fought 15-13 victory in the round of 128 before falling in the round of 64 to end his run.
