The Blue Devils featured a young and inexperienced squad in 2017, finishing the year with a 13-5 overall record, advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals and No. 6 ranking in the final USILA poll. The 13 wins marked the 11th straight season and 20th overall with at least 11 victories. Duke started the year 2-2 before going on a 12-3 stretch that included seven top 20 victories.
Sent on the road to No. 6 seed Johns Hopkins for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils dominated the Blue Jays 19-6 to advance to their 15th NCAA quarterfinal.
