CANCUN, Mex. – Duke fencing junior Eoin Gronningsater notched a second-place finish at the Cancun Satellite Tournament on Sunday, hosted by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
Gronningsater posted a perfect 5-0 ledger in pool play to earn a bye in the table of 32. In the finals, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native fell to Ethan Gassner, 15-12.
Gronningsater is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign, highlighted by All-America accolades at the NCAA Championships. Winning nearly 86 percent of his bouts, Gronningsater helped the Blue Devil men make history by capturing their first ACC team title while also collecting a silver medal at the conference championships.
