DURHAM, N.C. – The best thing about freshmen?
They become sophomores.
Witness Duke right fielder Griffin Conine. Plagued by consistency and confidence issues, Conine struggled through a lackluster freshman season last spring.
But Conine responded by learning valuable lessons, going to the woodshed to work them out and came back to Duke as one of the ACC’s top sluggers.
Griffin Conine comes from baseball royalty. His father Jeff played for six teams in a 17-year major league career but is best known for two stints with the Florida Marlins, which included World Series titles in 1997 and 2003 and an MVP award in the 1995 All-Star Game.
