It’s all rather a long time ago now, the miraculous standard of excellence that Red Auerbach and Bill Russell put together in Boston in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s.
And the participants are leaving us like leaves on a fall tree. Auerbach has been gone for some time. John Havlicek has gone on. Tom Heinsohn died recently. And now, KC Jones has died too, on Christmas Day at 88, a victim of Alzheimer’s.
Jones was always a quiet Celtic, but Auerbach said when he put him in, the game turned quickly. He was a highly athletic guard and defender.
