INDIA — Duke University women’s basketball freshman Miela Goodchild scored a game-high 26 points Friday, but Australia dropped a 90-77 decision against Japan in the semifinals of the FIBA U18 Asian Championship in India.
Australia will next take on Korea Saturday in the third place game to conclude the championship.
Goodchild, who hails from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, scored the opening points of the game, but the Gems would fall behind 21-12 at the end of the first quarter. Australia trailed 33-18 in the second quarter, but went on a 14-0 run to cut the score to 33-32 with 2:41 remaining in the half.
