When Joanne P. McCallie resigned earlier this summer, there was a nostalgic boom for hiring Gail Goestenkors, who coached Duke from 1992-2007
It didn’t happen of course. Duke told the still-much loved Goestenkors that it was looking forward, not back, and after a bit of disappointment, Duke fans got duly excited about Kara Lawson taking the job. The whole bring-Gail-back thing ended the minute Lawson was announced.
Even so, Goestenkors clearly wanted back into the college game and now she’s done it: she’s been hired as an assistant at Central Michigan, about an hour from where she played college ball at Saginaw Valley State.
