TIME magazine recently released a list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and former Duke student-athlete and U.S. Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad was recently announced as one of the recipients of the honor listed in the Pioneers category.
Muhammed will be competing for the United States in the Olympics for the first time this summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is being recognized as one of the most important pioneers because she will be the first American athlete to wear the hijab headscarf traditionally worn by Muslim women during Olympic competition this year.
