Former Duke Coach Bill Foster Dies At 86

Foster came to Duke from Utah and revived a Duke program that had seen great success under Vic Bubas but not much since he retired.

Foster quickly turned Duke into a competitive program and then, in 1978, took the Blue Devils on a magical ride to the national championship game where Duke lost to Kentucky on the strength of a phenomenal game by Goose Givens.

Foster was a very interesting coach in many ways and a good man. We'll have more on him later tonight. Our deepest sympathies to his family and daughter Debbie, who many readers will remember from Jordan High School in Durham.
