This is pretty cool: former Duke assistant Hubie Brown is a co-recipient of the 2017 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award (Al Attles was also honored).
Daly and Brown worked for Vic Bubas in the 1960’s with Daly getting there in 1963 and Brown in 1969, near the end of Bubas’s legendary run.
It says a lot about Bubas’s eye for talent. Daly had a great run with the Bad Boys in Detroit and Brown made his own name in coaching and broadcasting.
Brown had an interesting basketball career. He played at Niagara, along with Frank Layden, who later coached the Jazz, and Larry Costello, who coached the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls.
