YEOSU, South Korea – Ashley Twichell, a 2011 graduate of Duke, secured a trip to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo with a top-10 finish in the women’s open water 10K event at the 18th FINA World Championships.
Twichell earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the first time in her career with her sixth-place finish in the event, finishing with a time of 1:54:50.5. She will be joined at the 2020 Olympic Games by fellow American Haley Anderson, who finished second in the event with a time of 1:54:48.1
The Blue Devil swimming and diving program will send representatives to the sport’s premiere stage for the third consecutive Olympics.
