DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke University field hockey team spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day lending a helping hand at the MLK Million Meals Event, held at Durham Technical Community College. The Blue Devils joined volunteers from the Duke and Durham community in packaging meals that will fill the shelves of pantries in the Triangle area.
Volunteers put together dry ingredients for soup mixes, rice bags and bean bags. The meals will be distributed to agencies working to end hunger in Durham, Orange, Wake and Johnston counties.
"Everyone this year was eager to participate in the MLK meal packing event, especially because it was so much fun last year,” said sophomore forward Meghan Norair.
