Duke’s Surprising Three Point Shooter

Relying on a single 3-point shooter is not ordinarily a formula for success. Sometimes, though, that’s how roster realities shape a team, like the 2017-18 Blue Devils.

This was largely expected. Senior Grayson Allen was to be the primary outside scoring threat, and so it’s proven for the third straight year. Yet Allen is responsible for only the fourth-largest portion of the threes attempted on a Duke squad over the past nine seasons, 29.7 percent, and is almost matched in triple tries by Gary Trent, Jr.

Freshman wings Trent and Alex O’Connell also were expected to present threats from the bonusphere.
