Joanne P. McCallie will take a medical leave of absence from the Duke Women’s Basketball program, effective immediately.
The school announced that McCallie will not be with the team for approximately two months due to a “kidney-related ailment”. The timetable allows McCallie to return to her duties as Head Coach around June, which gives her time to settle in before the stress and pressure of the season.
In the announcement, Duke said that the ailment is correctable and it was diagnosed in November 2017. Coach McCallie will shortly start a treatment program to take care of the issue.
