ORLANDO, Fla. - In their final game of the weekend at the Citrus Classic, the Duke Blue Devils (9-5) fell in an extra-innings battle to the 22nd-ranked Minnesota Gophers (10-4), 5-1, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Gophers struck first, finally breaking through the Blue Devil defense thanks to a throwing error that brought the game's first run home. However, that lead would not last long thanks to Jameson Kavel, who knocked a double to left center to score Dominique Salinas, tying things up at 1-1.
Duke nearly broke the tie in the sixth, getting a runner to second with one out, but Minnesota was able to escape the jam unharmed to send the contest to the seventh at 1-1.
