DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Kayla McCoy delivered the game-winning goal and No. 4 seed Duke (15-3-2) shut out Rutgers (11-4-5) 1-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday evening at Koskinen Stadium.
Following a scoreless opening frame, McCoy provided the decisive goal in the 78th minute, sending a header into the back left corner of the net for her 11th goal of the season. Junior Ella Stevens was credited with the assist, her 11th of the 2018 campaign.
The Blue Devil defense did the rest, limiting Rutgers to nine shots, just two on goal.
