We’re always reluctant to read too much into a recruiting situation because things can change quickly and sometimes for fairly arbitrary reasons. We remember one story, not at Duke, about a coach who asked a player why he turned his school down. He explained it was because his number was retired and he wouldn’t be able to wear it.
Another recruit was concerned about social life. When Kenny Anderson picked Georgia Tech over favored UNC, he said he “didn’t want to be just another horse in Dean Smith’s stable,” or something close to it, anyway.
Some guys just fall in love with the school though.
