DURHAM, N.C. – No. 18 Duke opened its 2021 home slate and conference action with a dominating 9-0 five-inning victory over Pittsburgh on Friday evening at the Duke Softball Stadium.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 5-0 on the season and start league play at 1-0 while Pitt falls to 0-3 and 0-1. Senior pitcher Brianna Butler notched her second victory of the season (2-0), throwing a one-hitter in which she struck out five batters through four innings in the circle. Freshman Claire Davidson also made an appearance on the mound, tossing one frame in relief in which she retired the final Panthers' side.
