DURHAM, N.C.—With the Major League Soccer season nearing the All-Star break, it’s time for us to give an update on the six former Blue Devils in action in the league. The host of former Duke standouts each have seen quality time and been on the bench for the first teams all season.
Here is a breakdown as to have each has fared so far in 2018.
Sean Davis – Midfield – New York Red Bulls
- Has started 13 of 14 games he has appeared in for New York
- Red Bulls are sitting in second place behind Atlanta United
- Owns six assists to rank second on the team
- Has played the full 90 in 12 of his 13 starts
- Tied for ninth in Major League Soccer in assists
- Has been on the bench for 14 games for the Timbers
- Played eight minutes in a 1-1 draw with Atlanta United
- Went the full 90 with T2 in a pair of games
- Timbers sit in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 7-3-5 overall record
Mike Grella – Forward/Midfield – Columbus Crew SC
- Has returned from injury to start four games and play in seven
- Scored a goal in his first game back from injury
- Played 332 minutes overall
- Columbus is in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-5-6 record
Sebastien Ibeagha – Defender – NYCFC
- Signed with New York City FC after spending preseason with the club
- Has played in 14 games with nine starting assignments on the backline
- Played the full 90 in all nine of his starts and has started each of the past seven outings
- Has helped the team to a 9-4-4 record to sit in third place in the Eastern Conference
- NYCFC is unbeaten at home with a 7-0-1
- Seen action in six games with four starts at outside back
- Minnesota sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, seven points out of a playoff spot
- Has been among the 18 players on the gameday roster in 15 contests this season
Andrew Wenger – Defender – Houston Dynamo
- Has started all 11 games he has played as the utility player
- Played at forward, right back and left back over the course of the season demonstrating his versatility
- Has one goal and one assist with the goal being the game winner in the season opener
- Has played the full ninety in eight of his 11 starts
- Dynamo are seventh in the Western Conference and two points out of playoff contention
- Signed with New York Red Bulls II after being drafted in the first round of the SuperDraft
- Has six goals on the year for Red Bulls II
- Currently sitting one game out of a playoff spot
