WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Sixth-ranked Duke field hockey fell in heartbreaking fashion Wednesday evening, suffering a 2-1 shootout loss to No. 8 Boston College in the ACC Championship semifinal at Kentner Stadium. The Eagles won the shootout, 2-0.
Duke (12-6) had two goals disallowed following video reviews, including the seemingly winning tally from Alaina McVeigh with 35 seconds left in the second overtime. Following the review, it was determined the ball hit the foot of McVeigh on the redirect attempt.
Kira Curland registered the Blue Devils' lone goal, while Boston College goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer did not allow a single goal on four Duke shootout attempts.
