DURHAM – Duke fell to Virginia in its opening game of ACC play, 5-0, on Friday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Duke moved to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in ACC play. Virginia improved to 13-0 (1-0 ACC).
Junior Marcus Johnson earned his fourth start for the Blue Devils. A native of Fontana, Calif., Johnson was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in seven innings pitched. He struck out eight batters in the contest. Virginia's Nate Savino pitched a complete game shutout for the Cavaliers, allowing just five hits.
