HARRISONBURG, Va. – Two early goals and a shutout performance from the Duke defense lifted the fourth-ranked Blue Devils over James Madison, 2-0, at the JMU Field Hockey Complex Sunday afternoon.
Less than a minute into the opening quarter, sophomore Leah Crouse recorded her ninth goal of the season to put Duke up 1-0 early. Crouse drove toward the right side of the goal and forced the goalie out, lifting ball over her for the score. Sophomore Noor van de Laar put the Blue Devils up 2-0 later in the first quarter at the 7:38 mark, as she gathered a rebound off a corner shot from senior Haley Schleicher and connected with the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season.
